Student Records

In order to provide students with appropriate instruction and educational services, it is necessary for the District to maintain extensive and sometimes personal information about them and their families. It is essential that only pertinent information be kept in these records and that those records be readily available to appropriate school personnel, be accessible to the student's parents or legal guardian or the student in accordance with state law and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, yet be guarded as confidential information.

Student records shall be made available to a parent, legal guardian, emancipated student, or student of legal age upon request.

Student records shall be made available to an outside person or agency only under the following conditions:

1. A written request to release information is received by school officials duly signed by a parent of the student, a legal guardian, or by a student of legal age.

2. A request for information is received by school officials in the form of a subpoena, specific request by a court, or court order. Only information requested shall be provided.

3. A “Request for Transcript” is received from a bona fide educational institution, parents, legal guardian, students and ex-students.

When students transfer from Bon Homme School District #04-2 to another School District, the student's records will be forwarded upon written request by the parent or receiving school.

The only record to be retained indefinitely by the School District will be the student’s permanent record.

It will be the responsibility of the Superintendent to provide for the proper administration of student records in keeping with state law and federal requirements and to standardize procedures for the collection of necessary information about individual students throughout the District.

The Bon Homme School Board wishes to make clear that all individual student records of the District are confidential. This extends to giving out individual addresses and contact numbers.
